Robilant + Voena Gallery

Robilant+Voena is one of the most authoritative art galleries in the international art scene, founded in 2004 by Edmondo di Robilant and Marco Voena, with its main headquarters in London and spaces in Milan, Paris, and New York. The gallery stands out for its programme spanning centuries of art history, from Old Masters to contemporary art, through a rigorous and scholarly approach.

THE PROJECT

I wrote the critical text for the catalogue of InFormal, Cesar Santos’ first European solo exhibition (the Cuban-American artist trained between Miami and Florence), hosted by Robilant+Voena in Milan from 22 September to 27 October 2023. A body of works marking a turning point in Santos’ career, where figurative portraiture gives way to ambiguous and evolving forms, suspended between the legacy of the Old Masters and a completely personal visual language.
